Joe Clews Award. Each of the Senior Schools will again be requested to select a recipient of this award and the winners will be invited to our meeting in March 2010 to receive their certificates and cheques

  

Joe Clews, the Man

Joe was inducted into the Rotary Club of Wednesbury on July 29th. 1964 with the classification Education/Commerce.He was a lecturer in accountancy and company law at the College of Commerce in Wednesbury.

A Paul Harris Fellowship was awarded posthumously.

The Club wanted Joe to be remembered for his work for Rotary, but especially for his work with young people, and the Joe Clews Award was instituted. It is presented annually to a student in each of the four Senior Schools in Wednesbury for service to the community in which they live or at the school. The recipients of the award are invited to a Rotary meeting to receive a framed certificate and a cheque. The 2009 presentations were made on Thursday 26th. March and Joe’s widow, Doris was able to attend and have her photograph taken with the recipients. Please see Joe Clews page for pictures.


 
      The Stan Dunn Award 

will be  implemented and awarded annually to a boy or girl for service to the community and/or their Primary School. There will be a prize of £50.00 for the winner in each of the Wednesbury Primary Schools that take part, plus a shield.

  

Stan Dunn, the Man 

Stan was born in March 1924 and during the second world war, he served in the royal  air  force  as  a gunner on a liberator bomber. When returning from a bombing mission the plane crash-landed in  Cornwall and Stan was wounded

Unfortunately due to ill health, Stan has had to resign his membership, but to honour his service he has been made a life member of the Rotary Club of Wednesbury.

In his honour and to recognise his work with the community, this new award to be known as The Stan Dunn Award has been set up in his name to be awarded annually to a pupil in each of the primary schools in the Wednesbury learning community who has shown outstanding service to the community and/or their school. Headteachersare invited to nominate a boy or girl for this award and the winners will be presented with a shield and cheque for £50.00 by the President of the Rotary club of Wednesbury.
